About

Fresh Festival Journal looks at how festivals are shaped, not simply at what appears on a programme. We are interested in the design decisions that guide a visit: where people gather, how they find their way, when a day changes pace, what they hear and which small rituals become familiar.

A festival in its details

Our coverage follows the experience from arrival to departure. We explore entrances and gathering places, the visual language of signs and maps, the tempo of a schedule, the texture of sound and the repeated customs that help a gathering feel like itself. Each subject has its own focus; we do not treat every festival as if it shared one formula.

For curious festival-goers

The publication is for readers who enjoy noticing how places work, whether they are planning a visit or thinking back on one. We favour clear explanations and useful ways to observe over insider jargon, sweeping verdicts or advice that depends on a particular venue's rules.

Looking closely

We pay attention to how choices affect the shape of an experience, while keeping observation separate from assumption. A sign can suggest a route; it cannot tell the whole story of how every visitor moves. We aim to make our reasoning visible and leave room for the many ways people encounter a festival.
